Taking Risks
Monday, March 10th, 2008 at 5:11 pmI stepped way out of my comfort zone this weekend, and am pleased to report that I’m still here to tell the story.
I recently took an 8 week teleseminar course by Alex Mandossian on how to give teleseminars. Without a doubt it was one of the best classes I’ve ever taken. I have the utmost respect for this man because he not only delivered world class content, he did it with passion, generosity and integrity. It was an amazing experience!

And it was also somewhat overwhelming. You see, although the class was about doing teleseminars, it really was a comprehensive class about internet marketing. The class was a response to the question: “In this fast paced technological world, how do you get your message out there to the greatest number of people?” So while I was expecting to learn a great deal about giving teleseminars, I really was unprepared for how much knowledge I would gain about every other aspect of business building. This is where it became risky for me because prior to this class, I had no previous understanding of the marketing world and the experience often made me feel like I was in a foreign country where I didn’t know the language and where I had no personal guide to show me around. I definitely had to climb my way up a very steep learning curve.
So fast forwarding to this past weekend when I attended a reunion given for the participants of this course, I found myself again in the risk zone when I not only had to try and understand marketing, I had to use this knowledge with a room full of people, many of whom could network in their sleep. I clearly saw how easy it was for the majority of them to pitch their products or services with confidence while I awkwardly stumbled through my explanations of who I am and what I have to offer. I didn’t have a rehearsed elevator speech, didn’t sound smooth and polished and didn’t even always know what I was looking for.
Just the same, every chance I got I smiled, shook hands with a stranger, introduced myself and launched into what I do and why I was there. Was I graceful? Probably not. Was I succinct and clear? Not usually. Was I a risk taker? Absolutely!! I stepped out of my comfort zone time and time again and am a better person, and I’d like to think a better business woman, because of it.
Never stop taking risks. It’s how we continue to grow.

Wasn’t the reunion fantastic? Many of us stepped way out of our comfort zones but doesn’t it feel good - now that it’s over???
