Unexpected gifts

I attended a meeting today that I was really not looking forward to.  Not only was I not happy about the reason for the meeting, I was also a little put out by the fact that I had to go across town to attend it.  Needless to say, I wasn’t expecting it to be a very pleasant experience.

And then something beautiful happened.  I reconnected with people that I haven’t seen in years making all the rest of it irrelevent.  The school where the meeting took place was one where I taught a number of years ago.  In fact, I was one of the founding staff members the year that this school opened.   So today I found myself sitting around the table with former colleagues with whom I have shared wonderful times in the past and was surprised at how happy I was to be among them.  The smiles, hugs and inquiries about my life brought back fond memories of the bonds that we had created so many years ago, which have been put aside because of time and geography, but definitely not forgotten.

Life can sometimes give the amazing gift of helping us to remember that we matter to others, even through the years.
