An Historic Day
Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 at 10:53 pmWhen President George W. Bush was voted into office for a second term four years ago, how many of us lost hope that things in this country might ever change? I know that I did. By nature, I am optimistic and hopeful, but watching the direction our country has taken these past eight years has made me wary and worried. I never thought I’d see history in the making the way I saw it today.
At 8:01 this evening, I cried. At that moment, I felt the winds of change shift in a direction that once again makes me feel hopeful for our country. The election of a Barack Obama to the highest political office in our nation is an historic moment and one that makes me proud to be a citizen of this great country.
I am awed by the fact that I am a witness to history in the making. I am hopeful for my own future, as well as the future of this nation. Most importantly, I am hopeful for my son’s future. I am filled with optimism for the generations of young people today who are witnessing the truth of the ideas that change can happen and that anything is possible.
We still have a long road ahead of us, but for the first time in years I have reason to feel happy about the direction the road is taking.
